Jane has been involved in the training of lay and ordained ministers for 16 years.
Following her curacy at St John’s Owlerton she served as a tutor with Church Army where, as well as working with Church Army Evangelists-in-Training, she worked with Readers, Parish Evangelists, Pastoral Workers and Children’s Ministers, through Church Army’s partnership with the Diocese in School of Ministry.
In 2012 she became head of Church Army’s training team, overseeing developments in making training accessible for a greater number and range of people.
She moved on in 2019, and since then she has worked with the Diocese in developing learning and equipping for Focal Ministry, and in facilitating the recent Lay Ministry Review. From 2020 – 2022 she served as tutor for St Hild College, working with ordinands. She has been a Bishop’s Advisor for the last 5 years, a role which complements her experience in discernment for Church Army. Prior to ordination, Jane worked as a primary teacher.
She describes herself as ‘South Yorkshire through and through’, coming from a family of miners and steel workers and having a great love for the area – occasionally sneaking over the border for walks in the Peak District.
Jane is excited to begin the role. She says:
“I’ve really enjoyed each of the different ways I’ve been involved in providing learning and equipping for people in different expressions of ministry. I love to journey alongside people. I’m really looking forward to serving in a new role as part of the vocations team.”
The Bishop of Doncaster, the Rt Revd Sophie Jelley, says:
“I am delighted that Jane comes to join the vocations team at this exciting stage in the life of our Diocese. Following on from the lay ministry review, we are keen to see how we can offer even more support to the whole people of God for the whole mission of God. Jane brings a wealth of experience of working with lay and ordained vocations from diverse backgrounds and traditions.
“As a trusted spiritual accompanier and a person of energy and enthusiasm, I am sure that she will be a great blessing in her new role.”
Jane will be licensed to this new role in the near future.
