Worship changed lives!
Nearly 400 people from all over Sheffield Diocese gathered at Philadelphia Campus in Sheffield on Saturday 3rd October for the ninth Diocesan Development Day, entitled ‘Worship changes lives’. And worship did change lives as delegates encountered God in different ways throughout the day.
One person said afterwards : ‘I suddenly realized that I no longer had any back pain. No one had prayed for me; I had been healed during the worship.’ Others commented : ‘The day was full of riches – inspirational’. ‘A superb day.’ ‘The worship itself lifted the spirit.’

The stage decoration reflected the central theme of Ezekiel 47: the river flowing from the Temple bringing life wherever it goes. Delegates were invited to go deeper with God through the worship, the main talks and the workshops.

The Keynote speaker was Revd Peter Moger, National Worship Development Officer, who spoke about formation and transformation. An encounter with God should not simply leave us with a rosy glow, but should inspire us to action as we go back out into our local communities. Indeed, we have a God who sends…his Son, the Holy Spirit, the first disciples, and now he sends us.
Delegates then had a choice of 22 different workshops, covering many aspects of worship as it relates to the mission of the Church.
There was time to chat over lunch, and an opportunity to visit various stalls advertising Church House Resources, the Worship 4 Today Course, the Royal School of Church Music and Reflective Worship at Whirlow.

The day opened and closed with acts of worship accompanied by a substantial band and choir drawn from musicians from across the Diocese. During the closing worship, delegates were invited to pray in various different ways at different Prayer Stations. This was particularly moving, as people moved silently and prayerfully round the building. Many received anointing and prayer for healing.

Later in the day, Bishop Steven drew all the themes together, setting out a vision for sustaining existing congregations but also beginning new ones. Reading again Ezekiel 47, he reminded us that it is vital that worship is as good as it can be so that the river grows deeper and deeper. Where the river flows, good things grow up.
