Legacy Initiative
An Initiative has been launched in the Diocese to promote the writing of wills and leaving of legacies amongst church members. The principal objective of the Initiative is to raise awareness amongst church members of the good sense of getting their affairs in order by writing a will. The second goal is to make clear what benefits a legacy can bring a church by making something possible that otherwise could not be achieved and therefore encourage people to think more positively about writing their church into their will.

PCC Registration
The Charities Act 2006 requires all parishes with an annual income of £100,000 pa or more to register with the Charity Commission, starting this October. The Diocese of Sheffield is working with the support of the national church as one of two pilot dioceses to help parishes with this process.
A meeting was held on 17th June with those parishes with income known to be above this threshold. Although the procedure is fairly straightforward, there are some important guidance notes which need to be followed if registration is to be successfully achieved.
NO PARISH SHOULD REGISTER WITHOUT SEEKING ADVICE FROM THE DIOCESE.
If your 2007 income was £100,000 or above, and you did not attend this meeting, please contact Nick Hutton at Church House Rotherham on 01709 309151 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for guidance.

Special campaigns: Giving for Life
Last Updated on Thursday, 23 September 2010 11:25
Giving for Life was launched on Saturday 23rd January 2010
Over 100 people gathered at St Mary's, Bramall Lane to hear the Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft, and Diocesan Christian Giving Director Nick Hutton give the national scheme a local boost.
Giving for Life is a nationwide initiative encouraging church members to be generous in all aspects of their giving.
This includes the use of time, skills, cash and hospitality.
Dr Croft spoke about the new vision for the Diocese, which covers the whole of South Yorkshire and parts of the East Riding, and of the importance of generosity in furthering the mission of the church.
“We are challenged to be generous in our lives and in this way we show our gratitude to God for all that he has shown us” Dr Croft said.
Nick Hutton recognised the significant generosity already shown in the Diocese and hoped Giving for Life would build on this.
He explained the resources available for parishes to use to teach the Giving for Life message and asked all Church Councils to consider how they should respond, offering them his help with this.
Encouraging Generosity in your Parish:
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
