Dignity at Work

Last Updated on Friday, 20 April 2012 10:48

A document on 'Dignity at Work' produced for the Ministry Division considers the issue of bullying and harassment in so far as they affect clergy. Chapter two sets out the legal position and the definition of harassment. It also indicates that there is no legal definition of bullying. In subsequent chapters it considers how complaints might be handled.

The document is available on the Church of England website (click
here to download).

The Bishop’s Council considered the document and the model policy in March 2012 and, while not adopting it, endorses the principles on which it is based, while recognising that the implementation may be different in practice.
The model policy is therefore included here for information only.

The regional HR group have indicated that they hope to produce a regional template on this subject as they regard the model policy as needing amendment to reflect recent legislation.

Ministerial Development Review

Over recent months the Bishop's Staff have reviewed the system of Ministerial Development Review in consultation with a number of others in the Diocese.  MDR is a requirement for clergy on Common Tenure and a recommendation for those who are not on Common Tenure.  However, we want to operate as far as possible a single scheme across the Diocese.  We have retained the system of everyone being reviewed every two years by a member of Bishop's Senior Staff, but please feel free to request a more frequent review if necessary.

The new policy document can be downloaded below.

The new pro forma for self reflection (attached below) should be used for all reviews taking place after 1 September 2011.

From this date you will also have the opportunity as part of the review process to gather external perspectives on your ministry and a feedback form to gain responses from other people can be downloaded below.

COMMON TENURE

Last Updated on Friday, 01 July 2011 14:53

COMMON TENURE

At the end of January 2011, significant changes will occur in the way in which clergy hold office in the Church of England.  These changes are the result of a number of years of careful deliberation concerning the way to deal appropriately with the issues that have developed from the increased level of legislation in the secular world, which affects the employment of individuals and groups.

General information on the change is given on the Church of England website and at
http://www.commontenure.org/
