Bishop Peter moved by vigil

As Doncaster grieved the loss of 13 year old Casey-Lyanne Kearney, candles were lit and prayers were offered at Elmfield park last night as many members of the local community spontaneously turned out.

Bishop Peter, who attended the vigil, said today: “The vigil for Casey-Lyanne Kearney was a moving and profound experience as people from all over Doncaster came to pay tribute.  As we stood in silence there was a real sense of the community pulling together but also of shock at what has happened.”

He added: “The young people were especially amazing as they spoke movingly about Casey-Lyanne and lit candles and lanterns in her memory and a sign of respect.  I was moved by the experience and struck by the strength and support of the local community.  I know the churches are praying for the family and friends as am I.”

Prayers will continue to be said for Casey-Lyanne, her family and friends in churches across Doncaster in the days and weeks ahead.
