Bishop looking forward to Confirmation Service

The Bishop of Doncaster, Peter Burrows, will officiate at his first service of confirmation as a bishop when he leads the service at Christ Church, Pitsmoor this Sunday (19 February, 6.30pm).

Confirming young people and adults as full members of the Church of England is one of the things that only a bishop can do.

Candidates are prepared for this momentous moment in their lives over several weeks or months before being joined by family and friends for the Confirmation itself.

During the Service, candidates are asked to make public promises concerning the Christian faith and, once confirmed, become full communicants members of the Church of England.

“I am really looking forward to sharing in what is a significant moment in the life of the confirmation candidates, as they take the next step in their Christian journey and commitment. I have prepared many candidates for confirmation over the years and organised the services, but confirming them as bishop will be a unique privilege. I hope and pray that the service will be a memorable occasion for the candidates as it will be for me at the start of my ministry as bishop,” said Bishop Burrows today.

Special hymns and readings appropriate to a confirmation service will form part of the evening worship.
