Latest news: South Yorkshire represented at General Synod this week

The Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft will be joined by elected clergy and lay representatives from the Diocese of Sheffield for this week’s Church of England General Synod at Church House, Westminster.

The first full day of proceedings gets underway this morning following the opening session last night.

Debates on children and young people, mission, TV coverage of religion, science and religious belief, church buildings, relations with the Anglican Church in North America, clergy pensions and legislation all feature this week.

“It is a meaty agenda with lots of interesting debate promised,” said Dr Croft this morning, in Westminster.

Reports on proceedings will be brought back to the next meeting of the Sheffield Diocesan Synod in Rotherham on Saturday 20th February.

Notes for Editors:

Background papers and other information will be posted on the Church of England website (www.cofe.anglican.org/about/gensynod/agendas/) ahead of the General Synod sessions.

A live feed will be available courtesy of Premier Radio (accessible from front page of www.cofe.anglican.org), and audio files of debates, along with updates on the days’ proceedings will be posted during the sessions.

The Diocese of Sheffield is called to grow a sustainable network of Christ-like, lively and diverse Christian communities in every place which are effective in making disciples and in seeking to transform our society and God’s world.
