A meeting MINISTRY MISSION TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT supports the work of the Board of Ministry and Mission. Our role is

  • to develop and encourage ministry in the parishes and diocese in order to further the vision and mission strategy of the Diocese.
  • to develop Christian mission through evangelism, ecumenism and service throughout the Diocese and with international partners.
  • to work with parishes and other partners to develop specific programmes of teaching and learning and continuing ministerial development.
  • to promote resources for growth in the christian faith of all who seek God.
  • to learn from and promote new patterns of church life which encourage and facilitate growth.

Board of Ministry and Mission

The Board aims to develop and encourage ministry and mission in the parishes and diocese in order to further the vision and mission strategy of the Diocese.

It aims to develop Christian mission through evangelism, ecumenism and service throughout the Diocese and international partners.

It will work with parishes and other partners to develop specific programmes of teaching, learning, parish development, outreach and continuing ministerial development.

It will aim to provide resources for growth in the Christian faith for all who meet God.

It will aim to learn from and promote new patterns of church, which encourage and facilitate growth.

It will be involved with:

  • children at communion
  • the spirituality of children and young people
  • spirituality, pastoral care and liturgy in parish life
  • training and support for spiritual direction
  • the discernment of vocations to the church’s public ministry, lay and ordained
  • training for ministry among children and young people, and as lay evangelists, pastoral workers and readers
  • mentoring in parishes for youth ministry, outreach work and events with young adults
  • the affirmation of lay ministry through their various associations
  • ensuring good practice in child protection
  • mission, outreach and evangelism including Fresh Expressions initiatives
  • nurturing new Christians
  • ecumenical work
  • resources for adult Christian learning and for exploring faith in working life
  • promoting the use of  educational resources for learning and teaching
  • the development of  team-working and the training of ministerial teams
  • the ministerial review and continuing ministerial development of all who hold the Bishop’s licence or are accredited ministers, lay and ordained
  • Liaison with the Faith and Justice Committee with regard to: developing the resources of local partnerships for training and ministry in urban priority areas and responding to social exclusion, addressing issues of sexuality, family life and marriage, and continuing training in race awareness.



New Constitution as agreed by the Board of Mission on 24th July 2006 and Board of Ministry and Mission on 26th September 2006 and by the Diocesan Synod 30th September 2006

Membership

Ex Officio:

The chairman and vice chairman (one of whom to be a lay member of the Diocesan Synod) appointed by the Bishop’s Council, on the nomination of the Bishop.

One of the College of Wardens for Lay Ministry, ex officio, by rotation of membership.

Elected:

There shall be 8 members at least three from each Archdeaconry.

The electorate shall be the members of the Diocesan Synod.

Co-opted:

Add up to 4 co-opted members, co-opted by the Board for their experience or expertise in matters not provided for within the elected membership.

In attendance:

All Officers and Bishops Advisers as required by the Bishop.

Meetings

The Board shall have a term of three years from the January following the election of a new Diocesan Synod. Officers, Advisers and Board Members shall have a full share in the Board’s decision making.

The Board meets three times a year. Each of the elected members would be expected to become conversant with an area of the work and to meet from time to time with the officers and those working with them in that area.

A note for those seeking nomination

  • The Committee will need members who share the Synod’s Vision of Mission in the Diocese to be shaped in a variety of circumstances and local conditions;
  • people committed to team-working, and enthusiastic learners through Christian discipleship in the world;
    men and women, who have experience to share in prayer and work together, and expertise in one or more areas of the committee’s work.
  • Those nominated will be asked to provide a brief description of their experience, highlighting the areas in which they have expertise. The following notes are intended to help with this.
