Hello my name is Reverend Judy Leverton; I am Chaplain for Deaf people in the Sheffield diocese, which includes the whole of Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield and parts of Barnsley. I am also team vicar in the Rivers team of churches.
I am a level 2 BSL signer working towards NVQ level 3 at Doncaster College for the deaf.
My role as Chaplain among deaf people involves offering Spiritual and Pastoral care, supporting deaf families with baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Most importantly I am here to offer love and support to anyone who needs it, people experiencing difficulties in life, those who are struggling to cope or anyone who just needs someone to listen and maybe pray with them.
I am happy to recommend interpreters to clergy who require this service for occasional offices where deaf people are involved.
Church services
Currently there is a sign interpreted church service at the Central Deaf Club, Floor 2, Victoria Hall Methodist Church, Norfolk Street, Sheffield S1 2JB. The service is held on the 1st Sunday of the month at 2pm.
I do hope that in the near future we will be able to hold a church service for deaf people on a monthly basis in Doncaster and Rotherham too. Please let me know if you would be in favour of this.
If you are a BSL signer and would like to be involved in ministry with deaf people, do please get in touch.
