Time and Space @ Hesley Wood

The 3 day residential which has become quite a significant event for several children and adults in the diocese was held at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre during the Spring half term holiday. 25 children and 6 adults spent the time exploring stories of faith through drama, relaxation with Mike North(he promised that we would feel as if we had 4 hours extra sleep to make up for the very short night we had just had!), painting totem poles, Knex challenge,good food,raft building,swimming and much more……

Child Friendly Church Award in the Dicoese of Sheffield

Child Friendly Church logoThis scheme encourages churches to take active steps to welcome and integrate children and families into the worshipping life of their church community.

This scheme encourages churches to put children and families on their agendas, to work towards certain targets and obtain an award to be displayed as appropriate.




Process for awarding

(can take 3-12 months in total)

  • Download self-assessment form from website
  • Church council or small group consider criteria with children's leaders
  • Return to Children's Officer
  • Visit from Children's Officer to look at response and any issues outstanding (1.5 - 2 hours session)
  • Church to act on any implication
  • Award presented
  • Church Council to review annually
  • Diocesan follow-up and re-award after 3 years.
