The Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft has appointed Revd. Philip Roderick, founder of the Quiet Garden Movement and Contemplative Fire, as Bishops’ Advisor in Spirituality and Chaplain to Whirlow Grange
The post is half time and Philip will continue with his role of leader of Contemplative Fire.
The core of Philip’s work will be to enable clergy and lay ministers to find spiritual directors and continue to build on the excellent work of the Spirituality Centre.
He has rich experience of parish ministry in Buckinghamshire and has worked in lay training across the Diocese of Oxford. He and his wife Jill will move to Sheffield in December.
The Bishop of Sheffield said today: “I have known Philip for five years through my work with Fresh Expressions and believe he has rich gifts to offer to the Diocese of Sheffield”
He added: “I believe he has a great deal to offer to the life of the Diocese and I commend his ministry to you most warmly.”
Philip is interested in the application of spirituality to all aspects of life and looks forward to building on the body of creative work done by his predecessor, Nick Helm, in fostering the spiritual life and gifts of both clergy and laity in the Diocese of Sheffield.
He will be licensed to his new roles by the Bishop of Sheffield in the chapel of Whirlow Grange on Sunday 7th February 2010 at 4 pm.
